Blockchain IFMFINTRAX-Financial Transaction intelligence & Forensics platform
Problem Statement
The growing use of blockchain-based financial transactions creates new challenges for detecting and investigating suspicious financial activity. Although blockchain transactions are publicly recorded, investigators may have difficulty understanding how funds move across multiple wallets, identifying unusual transaction patterns, and prioritizing activities that require further investigation. Tanzania’s National Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism framework recognizes that technologies such as mixers, tumblers, and other anonymity-enhancing technologies can make tracing illicit funds more difficult for investigators.
Proposed Solution
FINTRAX proposes a blockchain intelligence and digital-forensics platform that analyzes blockchain transaction data to help investigators identify suspicious patterns, trace the movement of funds, and prioritize activities for further investigation.
Innovation
What makes FINTRAX unique and innovative? FINTRAX combines blockchain transaction analysis, graph-based fund tracing, anomaly detection, and explainable risk scoring in one platform designed to support financial-crime and digital-forensics investigations. Unlike a basic blockchain explorer, which mainly shows individual transactions, FINTRAX looks at the relationships and behavior across multiple wallets. It can map how funds move, identify unusual patterns, assign a risk score, and explain the reasons behind that score. The platform is also designed with a human-in-the-loop approach. It does not automatically label a person as a criminal. Instead, it provides investigators with evidence, visual relationships, risk indicators, and an investigation timeline so they can make informed decisions. Another innovative aspect is its potential to be adapted to Tanzania’s financial-crime and cybersecurity context, rather than being a generic blockchain explorer.
Expected Impact
FINTRAX will make blockchain investigations faster and more effective by helping investigators trace funds, detect suspicious patterns, prioritize high-risk transactions, and understand complex blockchain activity through visual and explainable intelligence. This can strengthen Tanzania’s capacity to combat emerging digital financial crime and improve financial-sector security.
