Problem Statement
THE PROBLEM Digital learning is increasingly important in schools, but unreliable internet can make continuous learning and online assessment difficult. For example, a student may access a lesson successfully but fail to complete or submit a quiz when the network suddenly becomes unavailable. Teachers may also struggle to consistently track student progress, identify difficult topics, and provide timely support. Literature Review: Existing platforms address parts of this challenge. Kolibri supports offline learning and assessment but may require local infrastructure for content distribution and synchronization. Moodle provides offline capable learning through its mobile application, although offline functionality depends on the activity and system configuration. W3Schools an online platform that offers lessons, exercises, and quizzes, but mainly focuses on programming rather than teacher-managed learning across school subjects. SomaSync combines offline learning and assessment, automatic synchronization, classroom management, teacher performance monitoring, AI-supported feedback and school exam marking—ensuring unreliable internet never becomes a barrier to continuous learning, assessment, or student progress monitoring.
Proposed Solution
SOLUTION SomaSync is a school-based offline-first progressive web App where learning and assessment platform built around a simple flow: Online → Offline → Sync → Database When internet is available, students download their assigned lessons and quizzes to their device, then continue studying and taking assessments without a connection. Learning data lesson progress, quiz attempts, scores, and assessment results is stored locally on the device using IndexedDB. Once the internet returns, SomaSync automatically synchronizes this data with the back-end so teachers see updated performance. Assessment: Normal quizzes support True/False, Multiple Choice, and Matching formats, marked automatically by the back-end.
Innovation
INNOVATION: TARGETED AI FEEDBACK SomaSync uses AI only where it adds real value, it explains the Mistake, when a student answers incorrectly, the system uses the OpenAI API to explain the mistake simply and reinforce the correct concept. AI-Assisted School Exam Marking: SomaSync mark school exams by comparing student answers with reference answers and marking schemes, using the allocated marks for each required point or concept to award scores and provide feedback. Text answers are evaluated as text, while diagrams are stored as image snippets and visually compared with reference diagrams. AI-generated marks can be reviewed and adjusted by the teacher before results are published. The marking scheme remains the source of truth: the AI does not create or change it, and the backend validates every mark awarded, making AI a supporting tool rather than the marking authority.
