OneApply

Problem Statement

High school graduates applying for undergraduate studies in Tanzania often have to create separate accounts on different university application portals and repeatedly enter the same personal, academic, and family information. This redundancy makes the application process time consuming, repetitive, and tiresome.

Proposed Solution

OneApply is a centralized platform that allows students to: 1. Create one profile and enter their information once. 2. Explore participating Tanzanian universities and degree programmes. 3. Apply to multiple universities from one platform. 4. Provide universal information once and answer university specific questions separately. 5. Pay application fees through mobile money. 6. Track application status from one platform. 7. Receive AI powered recommendations for degree programmes based on their interests, academic performance, and desired career. For universities, OneApply allows them to manage programmes, campuses, deadlines, university specific questions, applications, applicant documents, reviews, and admission decisions. OneApply does not replace existing university admission systems. Instead, it acts as a standardized application channel connecting participating universities and students.

Innovation

The main innovation is standardizing the university application process into one platform while allowing universities to retain control over their own admission requirements and decisions. Key innovative aspects include: 1. One profile, multiple applications: students enter common information only once. 2. Standardized applications: universities receive applications in a consistent format. 3. University specific requirements: each university can still ask its own additional questions. 4. AI programme recommendation: helps students identify suitable programmes based on interests, academic performance, and career goals. 5. Integrated mobile money payments: supports application fee payments through Tanzanian mobile money services. 6. Multi university platform: connects students and participating universities without replacing their existing admission processes.

Expected Impact

For students: 1. Reduce repetitive data entry and account creation. 2. Reduce the time and effort required to apply to multiple universities. 3. Increase successful application completion. 4. Make it easier to discover suitable degree programmes. 5. Simplify application fee payments. 6. Provide centralized application status tracking. For universities: 1. Reduce the effort required to receive and manage applications. 2. Provide standardized applicant information and documents. 3. Make application review and admission communication more efficient. 4. Increase participation in a shared university application ecosystem.
