Farmers are highly vulnerable to drought, irregular rainfall, and other climate risks that can reduce crop yields and income. Many also have limited access to timely climate-risk information and affordable agricultural insurance, while existing claim processes can be slow, complex, and difficult to access in low-connectivity areas.
Proposed Solution
ShambaShield is an AI-assisted agricultural insurance platform that helps farmers understand climate risk and access weather-index insurance through a lightweight mobile and web application. It uses crop, location, and weather data to estimate seasonal climate risk, monitors predefined weather thresholds, automatically identifies eligible claims, supports appeals, and maintains a digital Climate Passport containing each farmer’s insurance and climate history.

ShambaShield combines AI-based climate-risk prediction with weather-index insurance, automated claim identification, an appeal mechanism, and a Climate Passport in one platform. Its key innovation is that it does not only respond after a farmer experiences loss; it also gives farmers early climate-risk information while keeping insurance decisions transparent through predefined weather thresholds.
